I had a fascination with pencils, particularly coloured, from an early age.
However, it wasn’t until I discovered the quality and intensity of artist grade pencils, that my interest and fascination was taken to another level.
Their accessibility and easy mobility were also major factors in making them a favoured choice of medium.
Earlier on, I experimented with oils, inks, watercolour and apart from a rather exasperating two years studying as part of a Commercial Illustration course at a Technical College in Brisbane, I’ve had no formal art education.
It has taken hours and hours of applying the pencils to paper, trial and error and experience, to lead me to where I am today.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to take part in several group exhibitions in Perth and Melbourne and a solo exhibition in Sydney, but it wasn’t until, I left the work force and eventually retired, that I’ve been able to focus on applying myself more.
Although pencil artworks are highly regarded, I feel they still don’t share the same level of appreciation and status as oil painting.
To me, the pencils are my paint brush.

In addition, my work has been used to illustrate various folders of a music web site called FatMax Tracks which was put together by an old friend Peter Shumack.
The music, recorded during the 70’s through to the 90’s, features tracks/ideas/musical sketches, predominately composed and performed by a mutual friend of ours, Tuk Davis.
Yours truly, makes the occasional cameo appearance on a few tracks, playing guitar.
